I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in August of 1998. I used medication for some time until I had a bout of strep throat and had to take anti-biotics. My health went down hill from there. I tried homeopathy and naturopathy and nothing worked. I had been given Food and the Gut Reaction from a friend at the beginning of my diagnoses but was not sick enough to try it.

I bought Breaking the Vicious Cycle and began the Specific Carbohydrate diet on October 31, 2000.

I had many ups and downs and even after a year I wound up in hospital on IV and steroids but I stuck to SCD faithfully, knowing that over time I would get better.

It is now 2006 and I am still on SCD and will never look back. I still struggle but compared to what my health was like even in 2001 when I was in the hospital, I am so much better than that. Despite even the gut problems, the rest of me is in great health.

I live in Burlington, ON Canada, I am 33 years old and have been married for 12 years to my soul-mate James, and have loved every minute of it. I have two children: a boy, Julian and he is 11 and a daughter, Nadine and she is 9. I am a musician and teach voice at home and at a school and I am contracted by my church for music purposes as well. I sing, direct the choir and lead worship for women's ministry.
